A tall redhaired german moving to Madison, Wisconsin? Now that could develop into an interesting story, ay?! Any resemblance of the blog title to movie titles is fully intentional :)

in retrospective: The House on the Rock

First of all: my external HD works again. Needed a new enclosure, i.e. board ... HD itself was never broken, thank god.

Last weekend in March Nadine visited me and we headed out west to The House on the Rock. It's about a 40 min drive from Madison and what you actually get to see, is a house that was built on and around a rock that was called Deer Cliff or Deer Rock or something like that before. Building started in the 1940s and the original owner was Alex Jordan Jr., from Madison. More background and facts at wikipedia The House on the Rock.

When walking thru the house we were wondering how people could have lived there, cause it seemed very dark and also the interior rather suited a museum than an actual house to live in. We later learned that most of the interior had been revamped when A. Jordan had sold the house and it became a big tourist attraction. Guess we would have appreciated the original looks more ... still it was pretty interesting.
Next to the house itself the latter owner build some big halls that host weird exibitions of kitsch and trash and also the worlds largest carousel ... without a single horse (figurine) on it.
Guess, I'll just stop the talking and post some pictures.

One of the many colorful lamps.

Ok, I could picture seating here just to chill out ...

They seemed to have sold out on that stuff though.

Maybe I should call my friend Joaquin ... see if he's alright!?

A ghost?

Then it was time to leave.

That night we stayed at the House on the Rock Inn, which is a decent hotel. Got heavy winds, rainfall and a tornado warning that night. We were ready to take our stuff and run to the baement or whereever one would be considered safe, but fortunately the storm passed without doing any harm.
On the way back to Madison on sunday we stopped at the Cave of the Mounds, a limestone cave ... pretty cold and wet down there.
After lunch at the indian buffet (Maharaja West ftw!) it was almost time again to drop Nadine off at the airport again from where she returned to NY :*(

Headcrash

Last friday my external HD died on me :*(
Can't access any of my photos or mp3s at the moment. I am pretty sure though that it is not a headcrash but some issue with the power supply. Hopefully I will be able to have it sorted out soon.
