A tall redhaired german moving to Madison, Wisconsin? Now that could develop into an interesting story, ay?! Any resemblance of the blog title to movie titles is fully intentional :)

The good, the bad and the brewmaster

Well, well, well ... about time I write something about the "Bockfest" that took place on the last february weekend already.
Seemed to me, it was anticipated like nothing else in Madison, kind of like each year's climax ...
So what is it? Well actually it's one saturday afternoon in february, when the Captial Breweries in Middleton present their 'Doppelbock' to the public. Beerdrinking outside ... Is that it? Pretty much, apart from fringe events like the (in)famous Poopy Costello (what kind of name is that? Hilarity ensured!) and his country band and being pelted with plastic beads and/or smoked fish from the rooftop of the brewery.
American's fascination for beads is just amazing. Whenever there is some event nowadays, it seems to me that people's eyes glaze over and they fall into a deep trance, chanting "Beads! Beads! Beads!", as soon as somebody starts throwing cheap, ugly necklaces made from plastic beads at them. Maybe it's just rooted in the country ... or there's some substance in the water. Anyway, I bet for some truckloads of plastic beads, I could buy Manhattan ... or the Madison Capitol ... or maybe both.

The Bockfest-Triumvirate Tom, Greg and Frank (left to right).

The other thing that sends people at Bockfest into a frenzy, much like feeding shark, I might add, is the smoked fish. Wouldn't you just love to be hit square in the face by a smoked fish tossed from a two-story-building, that bursts on impact and sends it's debris flying into innocent bystanders faces/beers. No, you wouldn't ... Madisonians seem to just love it, but maybe it's also because you can trade the fishhead for a beer at the bar. So it all makes sense ... to some.

The brewmaster, depite his years, still sports a good throwing arm!

On a sidenote: Frank thinks the Doppelbock this year was not as good as he remembered it to be!? Remembered!? Hahaha, good one ...

Tom is finally happy ... beer, beads and my furry hat! What else could you wish for?!
